You would think that a big company like Microsoft would invest a little in a big ad for their latest product. This particular add was in the front window of a HMV store in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the busiest and public places in Hong Kong. I'm not sure if Microsoft is directly responsible for this ad, but Hong Kong is splattered with these types of non-creative ads.

Bloomberg: Hulu coming to PlayStation network 'soon'

read -->Bloomberg: Hulu coming to PlayStation network 'soon'

It was just two weeks ago in the runup to E3 that Reuters spread rumors of Hulu coming to the Xbox 360 and the iPad as some sort of paid service, and now Bloomberg is adding to the chatter, saying that everyone's favorite video service is also in talks to become part of Sony's Playstation Network and appear on the PS3 "soon." As with the previous rumors, Hulu on PS3 is said to be a paid service, but nothing's actually confirmed yet. So is Hulu playing Microsoft, Sony and Apple against each other in a bid to collect the biggest exclusivity fee possible, or are we about to see an aggressive Netflix-style multiplatform rollout? We'll see.

Malaysia Airlines now offers iPad check-in (video)

read -->Malaysia Airlines now offers iPad check-in (video)

It's getting easier and easier to enjoy in-flight entertainment on Apple's briskly moving tablet, but why wait till you get to the gate to dive in? If you're flying out of Kuala Lumpur, you can play with that 9.7-inch IPS touchscreen while you daydream of that time that watched Entrapment with your soulmate, book your flight, find departure times and even check in at dedicated kiosks. Adapting its iPhone application MHMobile for iPad use, Malaysia Airlines has installed five terminals at Kuala Lumpur Sentral so far -- where the company presently serves just 900 customers a day. See the interface in action after the break, or just download the existing app at our more coverage link if you're in search of that elusive globetrotter feeling.

Facebook Turns on PayPal for Ad Payments

read -->Facebook Turns on PayPal for Ad Payments

Back in February, as speculation built over how Facebook was going to work with PayPal (or compete with it), the two companies announced a formal partnership. Facebook would provide PayPal as a payment option in its Credits virtual currency, and it would do the same for its performance advertising system.

Now, the Ads payment integration is rolling out for all customers. PayPal is used by millions of people around the world, presumably including a good number of people who manage Facebook advertising campaigns — the news today will make paying easier for them, and maybe even get them spending more money.

For more on PayPal, Facebook, Credits, and payments, be sure to check out this guest post from early PayPal executive David Sacks.

iMovie for iPhone 4 – app review

read -->iMovie for iPhone 4 – app review

iMovie for iPhone 4 is a video editing application designed by Apple. iMovie is also the name of the video editing software included in iLife, which is bundled with every Mac. iMovie is only available for iPhone 4. (Don’t be sad, it needs the extra RAM and Apple A4 processing power).

As with most Apple products, iMovie is very easy to use and is fairly intuitive. If a tap doesn’t do what you want, a double tap will. iMovie can be used in either portrait or landscape, but landscape seems more natural for me.

While in editing mode, the top center of the screen shows your movies, the bottom of the screen has the timeline, and the sides of the screen have options: projects, upload media, upload media directly from camera, and play. When choosing media to add to your project, there are three tabs: video, photos, and music. Videos are listed in reverse chronological order, but photos are listed in chronological order. I find this annoying because it’s very likely that the photo I want to choose was recently taken and scrolling through hundreds a photos every time gets tedious. Not to mention, scrolling through photos is very laggy. This needs to be fixed.

Editing your movie is a breeze. You can drag clips around, trim the edges of clips, add titles, quickly switch between themes, and make minor edits to transitions. If there is a clip or photo you want to remove, just drag it off the timeline. There is one thing I want to mention about titles, however. They are very nice, but you cannot edit their length. Titles are automatically the same length as the clip you have the title attached to. Another simple feature that is missing is the ability to add plain text against a colored background.

Although there are a few little things missing from iMovie, I found it to be an excellent and quick way to edit a video. This is the first release of this app and I look forward to the changes that Apple may bring to it in the future. For only $4.99, iMovie is worth every penny.

Video and screenshots after the break! (To see a completed movie that was created with iMovie, check out my quick review of the iPhone 4’s camera)

Pros

  • Very easy to use
  • Comes with 5 themes: Modern, Bright, Travel, Playful, News
  • Can add your own music or chose from Apple’s theme music
  • Export as, medium (360p), large (540p), or HD (720p)

Cons

  • Titles last the entire duration of clip, with no option to set the length.
  • Cannot add more than one audio track
  • Cannot split clips
  • Must pan over images. Cannot have entire photo displayed in video.
  • Searching through photo library has major lag
  • Photos are listed in chronological order instead of reverse chronological order
  • Cannot add a text slide

iPhone 4 vs iPhone 3GS in Pictures

read -->iPhone 4 vs iPhone 3GS in Pictures

You didn’t really think we’d let you get through a day without setting the iPhone 4 down next to the iPhone 3GS, did you?

The verdict? Well obviously we prefer the iPhone 4, but we will say that the lack of a curved back has us flipping the device around quite a bit post-pocket-pull. But the iPhone 4 is thinner, feels nicer to our hands, and… well there are a lot of “ands,” the last of which is …and you’ll have to wait for our full review for our full opinion.

Ok, we’ll let one thing out now: while you may have pooh-poohed the Retina display from what you’ve seen before, when it comes to viewing text there’s just plain nothing else like it out there. We’ve included a detail shot of the Retina Display up against the iPhone 3GS’s display after the break (along with the rest of the gallery) and we’re pretty sure it’ll put most arguments to rest. Yes, it’s not necessary to read web pages or ebooks, but seeing electronic text at this level of refinement changes you, deep down, and suddenly all other electronic text looks like amateur-hour.
